Position Title: Senior Artist 2

External Description:

We are DICE, the award-winning studio with locations in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden, best known for creating the phenomenally successful Battlefield franchise.

We are now part of a set of global studios building a connected Battlefield universe. Our people are the backbone and driving force to our creative products, and are always looking for diverse game creators to join us in Stockholm, Gothenburg, or working remotely, to help us build the best Battlefield experiences and make our studio the best in the industry.

We are looking for a Key Environment Artist to help us improve our workflows for creating realistic environments, build the visual competency within our environment artists and drive the long-term direction for art quality – with empathy and clarity being at the heart of who you are as a senior artist. Reporting to the Content Production Director, the Key Environment Artist is a practical artist, inspired not only by the games industry but as a subject matter expert in environmental workflow and art production with a passion for working with teams to create something greater than they could by themselves.

Role and Responsibility of a Key Environment Artist:

  • Works closely with lead artists and directors to help form a vision, agreeing on visual targets and helps artists realize said vision in production.
  • Develops production aware visual targets through look dev and benchmarks by both personally creating but also delegating to experts on the team and driving the work.
  • Supports the team in production related issues and questions, lending their craft expertise to supplement the lead artist's management focus.
  • Creates, delegates and maintains tutorials, best practices and other learning materials relevant to the project and the environment art team.
  • Works together with the Content Production Director, Art Directors and Tech Art Directors to create a long-term vision for the domain's art quality, workflows and tools along with a detailed roadmap of how to get there.
  • Acts as a liaison to technical teams to facilitate development of tools, pipelines, workflows and engine features.
  • Collaborates with other Key Artists to share knowledge and workflows within the larger art team across the organization, making sure we work in similar ways where possible.

Skillset of a Key Environment Artist:

  • An artistic eye with the ability to get the best out of artists in their teams through feedback and support.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with a propensity for building relationships across seniority levels and helping people develop throughout their career.
  • Ability to simply and effectively get information across, holding presentations to share craft learnings and future direction of the craft.
  • Being self-motivated with an ability to manage their workload through planning and delegation without direction.
  • Expert in environment art workflows, including but not limited to asset placement and production, level creation, photogrammetry and PBR texturing, referring to experts for specialist level knowledge.
