Environment Concept Artist

Overview

Id Software, part of the ZeniMax Media Inc. family of companies, is seeking an experienced Environment Concept Artist to join our team in the development of an unannounced video game project. This is a full-time in-house at our Richardson, TX studio (near Dallas).

themselves in.

Environment Concept Artists are responsible for the visualization and conceptualization of AAA-quality environments, architecture,
and props. Reporting to the Art Director and working in close coordination with other Directors, Concept and Environment Art
teams, Environment Concept Artists are tasked with creating fully realized environments to be utilized in both gameplay and
cinematic context. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of art fundamentals as well as a technical proficiency
in both 2D and 3D visualization. Must demonstrate strong visual design skills.

 

Responsibilities

  • Create Environment and Prop concepts at the direction of the Directors and Concept Lead.
  • Work directly with the Directors, Concept Lead and Environment Art team in developing the visual look of the game.
  • Demonstrate ability to ideate, iterate, and refine visual design language and architectural/environmental motifs.
  • Create mood and lighting concepts to assist in providing visual direction to Environment and Lighting art teams.
  • Provide detailed architectural and prop concepts for 3d modeling, including turnarounds and orthographic images.
  • Work closely with the Directors and the Art team to create assets and environments that fit within the style of the game.
  • Collaborate closely with 3D modelers and game designers.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of industry or related experience.       
  • Proficient in concept and visual design.
  • Strong visualization and ideation skills required.
  • Ability to paint and/or model highly detailed environments and props.
  • Ability to iterate rapidly, providing a variety of ideation options for any subject.
  • Well versed in various art styles.
  • Ability to write and develop fiction around your own unique designs that inform the themes and story of the world.
  • Proficient in time management of multiple priorities and tasks within a set deadline.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong design skills required.
  • Resumes should include a link to your portfolio.

Preferred Skills

  • Significant contributions to at least 1 AAA shipped game.
  • Familiarity with id Software games, characters, brands and universes.
  • Proficiency with 3D modelling tools (Blender, Maya, LightWave, Modo or other similar) or understanding of modeling process.

Salary Range

Environment Concept Artist - The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $55,000 - $140,000 per year.

ZeniMax has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role; the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.

At ZeniMax certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, such as merit increases and discretionary bonuses. These awards are allocated based on individual performance and are not guaranteed.
