As a Senior Economy Designer, you will design, manage and optimise a free-to-play game economy, partnering closely with live ops, analysts and designers to find a balance between delivering amazing player experiences and maximising business success of the game.

You will utilise quantitative and qualitative player data and your in-depth understanding of the game to monitor the overall health of the economy, tune new and existing systems, and inform live ops and product management. Your insights will also aid in  new designs to ensure the game’s longevity and to maximise player engagement, retention and monetization.

You will have impact and fun at work by doing:

  • Define and lead a live ops and monetization strategy that provides value for players as well as for business
  • Drive the execution of the strategy by owning, e.g., the schedule, overall success of in-game sales, and live events
  • Own the roadmap of features and tools needed to grow, innovate and improve live ops of the game, and coordinate their development with relevant stakeholders
  • Own the economy of virtual currencies and items, and determine systems where sources or sinks can be tuned to improve game performance
  • Develop a deep understanding of player progression and predict the results of economy changes and new features and content
  • Monitor economic KPIs and player balances for player segments to ensure the overall health of the game’s economy
  • Conduct A/B tests to optimise game KPIss to deliver a fantastic player experience while maintaining a healthy game economy
  • Collaborate with the game designers and other key stakeholders to level up our understanding of the value and impact of economy changes across player segments and identify improvement areas

Experience and skills we are looking for:

  • Extensive experience in game design, game systems, and balancing game economies in a live free-to-play mobile game in a systems/economy design or product management role
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, simulating (e.g. with Machinations or similar tool), balancing and growing a live free-to-play game economy.
  • Demonstrated experience in running and growing a live free-to-play game
  • Deep understanding of economy and monetization design, as well as of engagement drivers in live games
  • Holistic understanding of how the interaction of systems and currencies affects the experience of the game and on the game financial performance
  • Sound product judgement, ability to formulate live ops strategy and present clear, measurable key results that will lead to achieving business goals
  • Hands-on approach and impact-driven focus on constantly pushing game performance and delivering fantastic player experiences
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with an emphasis on metrics-driven decision making
  • Able to work closely with a cross discipline game team
  • Knowledge of live operations and monetization trends within the free-to-play business model

Interview process:

  • Initial call: a quick chat for you to hear a bit more about the role, and for us to get an initial picture of who you are
  • First meeting: you will meet the hiring manager. The aim is for us to know who you are, dive deeper into your tech skills and understand what motivates you. This is also an opportunity for you to learn about Rovio, the wider team and the specifics of the role
  • Take home test: you will do a take home exercise to complete in your own time. 
  • Test review interview: you will be later invited to discuss the solution and go through a deep dive in different areas with the team here.
  • Final round: you will be meeting other members of the game team and our aim is to get a clear overview of how you would fit with our working culture, your ambitions and where we can help each other develop and see how you will work in a larger team.

Exploring new and emerging trends in puzzle games, the studio has built a deep understanding of the puzzle genre and its players since its founding in 2014. The studio has introduced innovations in puzzle game core with the free-flowing Angry Birds Dream Blast, several match 3 games such as Angry Birds Match and Small Town Murders as well as slingshot games like Angry Birds Friends and a great newcomer Angry Birds Journey. With their games, Puzzle Studio aims to create a true emotional connection that stays with players even when they’re not playing.
