Remedy Entertainment, the creator of Control®, Quantum Break®, Max Payne®, Alan Wake® and Death Rally®, and one of the leading independent game studios in the world, is looking for a talented Combat Designer for a key role working on a new multiplayerproject, codename Kestrel.

What you get to do

    • Design, prototype, and refine dynamic gunplay and combat mechanics within Unreal Engine, ensuring they emphasize strategic thinking and skillful play. 
    • Develop challenging AI behavior and systems that enhance the combat experience, rewarding player ingenuity and mastery of the game's mechanics. 
    • Collaborate closely with the Lead Gameplay Designer and Game Director to pitch and implement new enemy archetypes and boss fights that align with the game's vision and creative pillars. 
    • Take a hands-on approach from concept through to release, creating and maintainingbehavior trees, finite state machines, and environment queries. 
    • Work in tandem with programmers, character and VFX artists, animators, and audio designers to bring combat scenarios to life, ensuring a cohesive and immersive experience. 
    • Lead playtesting sessions, analyzing feedback to refine combat mechanics and encounters, ensuring they remain engaging, varied, and reward creative and skillful play. 
    • Stay informed on the latest trends in shooter and action game design, applying innovative techniques and approaches to continually enhance the game's combat system. 

What you bring to the role

    • A solid understanding of game design principles, with a specific focus on the role of AI in creating engaging gameplay loops. 
    • Proven experience in driving core game features from concept to release, with a strong background in AI systems and a track record of shipping titles in a similar capacity. 
    • Technical proficiencyin Unreal Engine enabling you to grasp complex concepts and undertake first-pass technical implementations of combat features. 
    • The ability to give and take constructive feedback effectively, working collaboratively with leads, publishers, and team members to improve the game. 
    • A commitment to crafting combat encounters that are not only challenging but also allow for multiple approaches, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
