Job Description

Fire Hose Games is looking for an experienced Concept Artist to join our team working on an unannounced sci-fi title! Our studio is fully-remote, and successful candidates may work from anywhere, provided they are able to sync with the U.S. Eastern time zone during core team hours. This is a full-time position which can be structured on either an employment or contract basis.

As our concept artist, you’ll help create and develop the visual style for an in-development science fiction game. You’ll envision and develop everything from spacecraft to space junk, working with other artists and developers to take concepts from initial sketches through to approved designs. Experience with other fields of game art design and implementation is a major plus, and we’re happy to have you as involved with development as you’re able to be.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with design and art teams to develop the visual style for a sci-fi space game
  • Work closely with design to visualize various gameplay elements
  • Quickly create and iterate upon concepts for various types of spacecraft and outer space environments
  • Deliver sketches, illustrations, and final concepts of various game elements
  • Collaborate with other artists to review and offer feedback on art materials
  • For candidates with the right skillset: Create game-ready assets and integrate them into the project
  • For candidates with the right skillset: Contribute to design decisions regarding gameplay

Qualifications

  • Professional experience as a concept artist developing commercial video games
  • Ability to create concepts in a wide range of visual styles
  • An outstanding portfolio with sci-fi and space-themed pieces
  • Experience collaborating with team members in other disciplines, including designers and programmers
  • Strong foundational art skills
  • Great communication skills - we’re a remote studio

Nice to Haves:

  • 3D modeling and texturing experience (Substance, Houdini)
  • Unity and/or Unreal asset integration experience
  • UI/UX experience
  • Technical art skills (e.g. shader creation experience, VFX)
  • Game design experience (from the art perspective)
