The Sims team at Maxis is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with experience in performance optimization, specializing in rendering and graphics. You will report to the Development Manager for the Performance and Scaling team, aligning to product goals set by the Technical Director. Your primary goal is to modernize The Sime graphics engine to improve performance and improve visual quality on newer hardware, including Windows, macOS, and consoles.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with all partners to integrate their systems and tools into The Sims game engine, development environment, and workflow
  • Collaborate with game team technical directors and engineers to implement game features on Windows, macOS, and consoles
  • Improve game rendering performance by taking advantage of platform specific capabilities
  • Partner with build and release team to build, release, and deploy game on all supported platforms
  • Establish and drive low-level performance profiling and optimization projects on multiple platforms

Need to have:

  • C++ knowledge with at least 6 years of professional programming experience in real-time rendering
  • Experience working in rendering for multiple shipped titles on current-generation hardware (PS5, XBSX, PC) and previous generation consoles (XB1, PS4)
  • Knowledge of modern CPU/GPU hardware architecture
  • Experience using a low-level graphics API (DX11/12, Vulkan, console, Metal etc)
  • Experience with graphics debugging tools (Pix, Renderdoc, console, etc)
  • Understanding of memory management and multi-threading with related debugging and optimization experience
  • Experience using static and performance analysis tools, automated testing, unit testing
  • Shipped at least one AAA title on multiple platforms

Nice to have:

  • Test-driven development experience
  • A passion for making and playing games
  • Comfortable with Windows, Perforce, Visual Studio, XCode, Python
  • Previous engineering experience overseeing a major system
  • Demonstrate experience working in large data-driven games or applications
  • 3+ years of experience developing for large-scale live products
  • 3+ years of experience using static and performance analysis tools, automated testing, unit testing, and configuration management processes
  • Bachelor's Degree in CS/Math or higher (or equivalent work experience)
  • Attention to detail concerning correctness and testability, beyond what is normally expected of code that might ship in one game or in one studio
  • A desire for continuous improvement to development processes and productivity
