Position Title: Sr Data Scientist

External Description:

We are hiring a Lead Data Scientist for our Studio Data and Insights Data Science team to join our current roster of lead data scientists. SDI Data Science partners with all of EA's game studios to offer data science products and solutions. For this Lead Data Scientist role we are looking for applied and practical expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Recommendations
  • Game Balancing/Skill Assessment
  • ML/AI Engineering Technology

You will bring expertise in the area of AI, ML, and engineering, and promote best practices for one or more of the areas above. You will lead a product pillar devoted to your expertise, shaping data products built for our titles.

What you'll do

  • Work directly with game teams/partners (internal clients) to understand their offerings, creating data science products and solutions for their use cases.
  • Apply pragmatic solutions to game team opportunities.
  • Develop and action on plans to generalize products across titles with our engineering partners.
  • Review team projects within your pillar, providing guidance and being accountable for the success of the project.
  • Promote data science projects and products throughout the organization.
  • Ensure sound methodology and experimental design so that experiments produce relevant conclusions.
  • Engage with the Data Science leads group as a member, guiding long-term strategies for the whole team.
  • Design, improve and work with our data pipeline that transfers and processes petabytes of data using tools, such as: AWS, S3, Kubernetes, GCP, Python, Apache Kafka, Ruby & Hive.
  • Build data manipulation, processing, and visualization routines to aid in your modeling efforts.
  • Use your statistical and computational knowledge to build algorithms for calculating variances, state predictions, and find trends.
  • Assist game teams and data teams in making important decisions.

Experience Background

  • Minimum Master's in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field encouraged.
  • 6+ years of professional experience manipulating data sets, building statistical models and productizing models along with experience applying Data Science methodologies to real-world problems.
  • Expertise building applied models, systems, or projects in any of the following areas: recommendation systems, game balancing/skill assessment, ML/AI engineering and deployment technology.
  • Experience with the full lifecycle of model development, from data collection to deployment.
  • Experienced in analyzing extremely complex, multi-dimensional data sets with a variety of tools.
  • Knowledgeable about data warehouse and non-relational data techniques to work with engineering partners.
  • Familiarity with at least one scripting language such as R or Python.
  • Experience using SQL or other query languages.
  • Big data technologies such as Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, and Pig.
  • Strong ability to work with non-data science teams on controlled experiments.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.
  • Application deployment using AWS, GCP, Virtual Machines, or Docker.
  • Experience building partnerships with individuals with non-data science backgrounds.
  • Interest in games a big plus.

Data is changing game development. Over the next few years, that change is going to accelerate and developers will need advanced data knowledge and toolsets. There is a large opportunity to change how developers build games and player experiences using machine learning/AI. The SDI Data Science team's role is to ensure developers have access to ML/AI experts, able to build AI-driven game features.
